I have the right
... to live a life free of cruelty and neglect.
... to be protected from disease by having proper veterinary care throughout
my life.
... to be protected from injury by having my safety ensured with a secure
fence or being walked on a leash and not allowed to run free without
supervision.
... to good food and lots of clean, fresh water.
... to be clean and have my coat kept brushed and my nails kept trimmed.
... to be protected from the weather, from the cold of winter and the heat
of summer and I have the right to shelter when left outside.
... to travel safely with you, not loose in the back of an open pick-up truck.
... to companionship. I am a social animal by my very nature and do not do
well when isolated from people and other animals.
... to kindness. I will do my best to please you but should never have to
endure your bad moods or temper.
... to make mistakes and have those mistakes corrected with fairness and
consistency, not with anger.
... to play.
... to be confident and happy.
... to be loved and praised and to know that I make you happy and bring joy
to your life.
... to reproduce ONLY if you, as my owner, can guarantee the health, comfort
and saftey of me and the little ones I produce, and find my children good
and happy homes where they can live long and productive lives as companion
animals.
... to love you regardless of whether my other rights have been violated and
will unselfishly lay down my life for you, because that, too, is my right as
a dog - YOUR DOG
